Write a Mission Statement that Doesn't Suck

You wouldn’t believe how difficult it is to find a mission statement that concisely articulates the results an organization is trying to achieve. There are so many statements out there that claim to be mission statements but they leave me and I'm sure other stakeholders confused about why exactly the organization exists. Today I want to share a few pointers to help you develop a clean and clear mission statement.

The three points I go over in this video are:

•  Try to be as specific as possible. Broad overarching mission statements lack focus and are hard for people to buy into.
•  Don’t include strategies in your mission. Rather than focus on what you do...focus on what you are trying to achieve. Something measurable that someone actually cares about.
•  Try not to use through or by in your mission statement-those are strategies and can lock you into a vehicle to deliver your mission.
